Dreamily AI Review: A Guide to Text-Generating AI

Author: Inge von Aulock

Ever fancied escaping to your very own multiverse? With the advancement in artificial intelligence (AI) technology, it can become a reality. Apps like Dreamily AI help you create your own fantasy stories.

It can make creative writing a breeze as you say goodbye to writer’s block and hello to exciting new storylines.

But how exactly do you use it? Because it’s a relatively new piece of software, there are little instructions on how to get the most out of it. We’re going to dive in and pave the way for writers around the world who want to start incorporating AI writing into their process.

What is Dreamily?

Dreamily is a piece of AI software designed to help create stories. It offers prompts, finishes your sentences, and generates new plot lines and stories. Think of it as your creative AI companion.

It is available to try on your desktop as a website, or alternatively, you can download it from Google Play for Android and the app store for IOS products.

There is a completely free version to play around with the collaborative writing models, but if you want full access to all of the best features, it will cost $7.99 a month or $59.99 a year.

Dreamily AI’s best features

Dreamily AI is still in the early stages of development, with its alpha testing just being released recently. However, this isn’t to say there are still plenty of fun and exciting features to try out that are only going to get better.

Talk to characters

Using natural language processing AI, writers are able to talk to the characters they create. This is a pretty incredible feature for those trying to figure out a plot or gain a deeper understanding of a character’s motive in their own world. It’s also why it’s very popular with fanfiction writers and literary enthusiasts in general.

Banned words

Dreamily gives you the option to create a list of words that aren’t relevant to your story or aren’t appropriate. This tells the AI not to use them, so the suggestions become more accurate for your world.

This helps keep a consistent writing style and immerses the reader in a unique universe. It also reduces the amount of editing needed to take place.

Dreamipedia

In the Dreamipedia, you can add every character alongside everything there is to know about them. This includes:

  • Gender
  • State
  • Age
  • Description
  • Name

Once you have more than one character established, you can select the type of relationship they have with each other. This will help direct the AI when creating storylines.

Alongside your list of characters, you can also create a document of nouns for the AI to use. Simply enter the name of the noun and a description. This can help when writing fantasy stories that include made-up objects.

Set the number of words

For each AI suggestion, you can choose how long you want it to be. You can also decide whether you want the prompts to be written in full sentences or whether you want to try your hand at finishing off an AI’s thoughts. Choose between:

  • 70 words
  • 140 words
  • 280 words
Dreamily works by setting the number of words in each step.

AI-generated openers

Staring at a blank page is always the hardest part of writing. But don’t worry, Dreamily has come up with the solution. Based on your world, characters, dreamipedia, and banned words, AI can offer plenty of engaging and interesting openings for you to choose from.

Multiple writing styles

As writers, we know the tone of voice needs to change for different genres of literature. Dreamily’s artificial intelligence offers a choice of:

  • General
  • Romance
  • Fantasy
  • Pure love

This means no matter what story you create, the AI suggestions will always follow plot lines that make sense.

Dreamily AI alternatives

Dreamily AI is not the only tool out there for aspiring writers. In fact, there is a whole industry dedicated to text generation. So, be sure to try out a few before committing to a subscription.

Some are more suited for hobbyists who enjoy writing the occasional fanfiction, and others are aimed at a more professional novelist. Let’s take a look at a few popular examples.

NovelAI

NovelAI has a very professional-looking editor, which you can customize to suit your needs. They market themselves as a monthly subscription for AI authorship, storytelling, and virtual companionship. The software includes the following features:

  • Theme editor: Change the font, sizes, and color scheme to suit you.
  • Privacy: All stories are encrypted, so only you can access them.
  • Style modules: Choose your favorite authors for the AI to replicate.
  • Themes: Choose the genre you’d like your story to follow.

It has a great sliding scale for different subscriptions to suit everyone’s needs. Check it out below.

Adventurer package is $9.99 a month, hero package is $14.99 a month, and the legend package is $29.99 a month.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT is one of two tools created by OpenAI. It uses the most advanced AI technology so far, currently using GPT-3 and testing GPT-4, and is structured in a dialogue interface. This means you simply input a writing prompt and have a completely original piece of text written in seconds.

If you want some visual prompts to get your creative juices flowing, try using the image generation OpenAI tool called Dall-E 2. Here you can describe your characters, and the AI will generate an image based on your prompt.

Both are currently free to use, but there is an option to upgrade to a PLUS subscription, which means you’ll never be subject to long queues when demand is high.

AI Dungeon

This is slightly different from the other apps we’ve looked at. AI Dungeon is a text-based game where you direct where the adventure takes you. There is no pre-set story background, and the possibilities are endless.

All you have to do is simply create the characters you want, write some actions, and add descriptions about your world. From here, the AI writer fills in the gaps and takes you on an original and exciting quest. Whether you want to experience fighting aliens or riding unicorns, AI Dungeon will write it for you.

You can play online for free or download the app. If you want to fill your months with more adventures or need inspiration for your next story, you can subscribe to different monthly packages that suit you. Check them out below.

Paper package is free, Tablet package is $10 a month, scroll package is $15 a month, and opus is $25 a month

Conclusion

So, whether you want to bring your favorite anime characters to life or improve your fanfic stories for Wattpad, we strongly recommend Dreamily AI.

A top tip for receiving more helpful suggestions is to begin writing a sentence and then ask the AI to finish it. At the moment, it seems to be more accurate when focused on continuations rather than writing a story from scratch. At the very least, play around for a few hours and see what it comes up with.
